King of Greenwood, IN and daughter Cathryn King (Steve) Herron of Mooresville, IN; grandchildren James "Bill" King (Angie McKee) and Monica Catherine (Scott) Hauger and great grandchildren Hana Josephine King, Brice Kenneth Hauger and Jessica Catherine Hauger and nieces Janet E. Brown (Michael) Molish and Charlotte L. Brown of Indianapolis. IN and Barbara A. Brown of Columbus, IN.
Affiliations: Mrs. King was the Valedictorian of her 1938 Graduation Class from the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home, Oliver P. Morton High School at Knightstown, IN. She was also awarded the American Legion School Award for Courage, Character, Service Companionship and Scholarship that was given to the most outstanding students.

Josephine M. Puntney King, 91, of Greenwood, died on Wednesday evening, April 27th, 2011 at her home.  Mrs. King was born on October 10, 1919 in Hammond, IN to the late William A. and Helen Straight Puntney.  She married James H. King on November 12, 1950, who preceded her in death on July, 29, 1979.


Mrs. King was a homemaker and loving mother.  She was also a billing clerk who retired from Stewart Warner on her 65th birthday.  Mrs. King was an accomplished and talented artist whose finely detailed pencil and ink drawings of birds and flowers were treasured by all who received them.  She also enjoyed reading and completing crossword puzzles.


Mrs. King was the Valedictorian of her 1938 Graduation Class from the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home, Oliver P. Morton High School at Knightstown, IN.  She was also awarded the American Legion School Award for Courage, Character, Service Companionship and Scholarship that was given to the most outstanding students.


Mrs. King was a member of the Greenwood Presbyterian Church and the O.N.O. Home Economics Club in Columbus, IN.


Mrs. King loved her extended family.  Her little sister Mrs. Kathryn J. Puntney Brown of Columbus, IN recently preceded her in death on November 2, 2010.  She is survived by a son Philip B. King of Greenwood, IN and daughter Cathryn King (Steve) Herron of Mooresville, IN; grandchildren James “Bill” King (Angie McKee) and Monica Catherine (Scott) Hauger and great grandchildren Hana Josephine King, Brice Kenneth Hauger and Jessica Catherine Hauger and nieces Janet E. Brown (Michael) Molish and Charlotte L. Brown of Indianapolis. IN and Barbara A. Brown of Columbus, IN.


The family wishes to extend their special gratitude and thanks to Jessica Montgomery for the love and care she gave to our “gram”.


Funeral Services will be conducted at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel on Monday at 2 PM.  Calling will be on Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.   Burial at the Forest Lawn Mausoleum in Greenwood, IN following the funeral service.
